CHIPPING AND RIGHT SHOULDER
4m
A Malaska Golf member wants to ensure he is not hitting behind the ball and that his shoulders are staying level and not dipping.
Mike Malaska demonstrates that when chipping and pitching, the level of his right shoulder goes up when he goes back. But when he comes down, it returns to the level where he began and stays level from there. You don’t want it to go lower than where you started.
Pushing away with your hip, which pulls your shoulder forward, is vital. Watch yourself in the mirror and notice the height at which your shoulder starts. As you swing through, ensure your shoulder does not drop any lower.
If your shoulder goes down, it can also hurt your lower back. Again, make practice pitch shots in the mirror, keeping your shoulder level. Copy that feeling when you set up to the ball, as this is crucial to come into the ball at the right angle and pitch and chip well.
