CHOOSE YOUR BEST GRIP

A Malaska Golf Member wants to know if the 10-finger grip makes your right hand too active.
Mike doesn't believe this. He played with the 10-finger grip in his senior year of high school and first year of college and played some of his best golf.
Sometimes when Mike practices, he takes his thumb off the club and assumes a baseball grip. Placing the thumbs on the club shaft gives it more stability. Interlocking and overlapping your fingers on the club put your hands together more as a unit.
Mike has done all three grip versions; however, if you want to master the lever system, using a 10-finger grip will help keep your arms relaxed when you swing. Mike often starts juniors with a split grip with the thumb off the club shaft. This will help to get the lever system working on both sides.
What tends to happen when you put your thumb on the club is that your thumbs tend to tighten your wrist and make it hard to work.
Get your left hand on the club correctly and put it in your right hand's fingers. The grip is a trial-and-error process to see what works best for you.
