Hands vs Body in The Swing
4m

Malaska Certified Coach Billy Fitzgerald from The Beverly Country Club in Chicago answers a question from Andrew Maycock about whether the hands or the body truly control the golf swing.

Billy explains that once your grip is correct, the most valuable skill you can develop is awareness of how your hands connect to the clubface. When you can feel the weight of the club and sense what the face is doing, your body will naturally follow and support that motion. You don’t have to force it — the swing becomes effortless and repeatable.
He reminds golfers that if you can feel the face through your hands, you’re already ahead. The goal isn’t to twist or manipulate the face to make the ball go straight, but to trust the feedback your hands provide. When the hands guide the clubface, the clubface guides the ball, and the body simply responds in sync.

In this lesson you will learn:
• Why a correct grip builds awareness and consistency through impact.
• How feeling your hands control the clubface improves ball flight.
• Why the body naturally follows when the hands work correctly.
• How hand awareness prevents the body from interfering with the swing.
• Why trusting your hands leads to a smoother, more natural motion.

He leaves golfers with a simple but powerful reminder:
“Your hands tell the clubface what to do, and the clubface tells the ball what to do.”
